Preview: Southwood Cowboys vs. Byrd Yellow Jackets
Southwood is 0-9 against Byrd since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Southwood Cowboys will head out on the road to face off against the Byrd Yellow Jackets at 5:00 p.m. Southwood is hoping to put an end to a 16-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Thursday, Southwood took a serious blow against Captain Shreve, falling 42-6. While losing is never fun, Southwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 236th, while Captain Shreve is ranked 28th).
Meanwhile, Byrd lost to Airline on the road by a decisive 42-28 margin on Friday. Byrd has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Desmond Simmons, who rushed for 205 yards while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Malachi Johnson, who rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
The losses dropped Southwood to 0-8 and Byrd to 2-6.
Southwood was taken down by Byrd 58-0 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Southwood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
