Softball Game Recap: Delavan Panthers vs. Cuba/Spoon River Valley Wildcats

Delavan extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 10-14 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 4-3 to the Cuba/Spoon River Valley Wildcats, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 9-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

As for Cuba/Spoon River Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 12-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 8th.

For Cuba/Spoon River Valley's part, Emma Probyn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Morgan Patterson was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

Looking ahead, Delavan is taking a road trip to square off against Richwoods at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Cuba/Spoon River Valley, they will host Astoria/VIT at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rebels have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.61 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
