Softball Recap: Limestone Takes a Loss

Limestone had lost eight straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 7-18 to make it nine. They fell 5-1 to the Pontiac Indians. That's two games in a row now that the Rockets have lost by exactly four runs.

As for Pontiac, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

For Pontiac's part, Natalie Zimmerman tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Zimmerman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Tessa Collins was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Hinz, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Coming up, Limestone will welcome Pekin at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rockets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dragons have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Pontiac, they will venture away from home to square off against Prairie Central at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Indians are facing the Hawks at the right time seeing as the Hawks are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
