Baseball Recap: Nutley Takes a Loss

Nutley lost a heartbreaker to Bayonne when they met back in April of 2023, and they left with a heavy heart again on Saturday. The Maroon Raiders fell 8-5 to the Bees. The Maroon Raiders have struggled against the Bees recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Nutley got a good showing from Nick Gaccione, who struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Gaccione has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Benjamin McNeil made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Eugenio Roman was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Nutley now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Bayonne, with the victory, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-6.

Coming up, Nutley will face off against Verona at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Bayonne, they will head out on the road to challenge Memorial at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
