Recap: West Orange Mountaineers vs. Immaculate Conception Lions

It was a good run, but the West Orange Mountaineers unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Thursday. The New Year welcomed they with a 68-35 whooping from Immaculate Conception. West Orange has not had much luck with Immaculate Conception recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

West Orange's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anaya Karriem, who scored nine points along with 15 rebounds. Karriem is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyley Gary-Grayson, who scored seven points.

West Orange struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.

West Orange's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Immaculate Conception, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

West Orange and Columbia will face off at 1:00 p.m. on January 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Columbia will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while West Orange is ranked seventh). As for Immaculate Conception, they will square off against St. Francis at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. St. Francis is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
