Softball Game Preview: Bay Tigers vs. Greene County Wildcats

Bay is 1-6 against Greene County since March of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Bay Tigers take on Greene County Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

On Tuesday, Bay came up short against Pass Christian and fell 10-5. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Bay saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bea Buice - 2027, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 16 runs the game before, Greene County was a bit more limited in their game on Tuesday. They fell just short of Poplarville by a score of 1-0. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Hornets: they've now lost three in a row.

Not much got past Addie Tungett, who gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Poplarville off the board. Tungett has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

Greene County's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-5. As for Bay, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bay has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Greene County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Bay came up short against Greene County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 5-2. Can Bay avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
