Softball Game Preview: Hayfield Hawks vs. Robinson Rams

The Hayfield Hawks will challenge the Robinson Rams at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Hayfield's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last seven matchups.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Hayfield and Edison meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Hawks were the clear victors by a 21-8 margin over the Eagles. Considering the Hawks have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Robinson, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Annandale a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday.

The team relied heavily on Grace Gilbert, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Marina Palazzo was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.

Hayfield has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Robinson, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-10.

Hayfield couldn't quite get it done against Robinson in their previous matchup back in April of 2019 as they fell 5-2. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
