Softball Recap: Garner Comes Up Short

After flying high against Smithfield-Selma on Tuesday, Garner came back down to earth. The Trojans came up short against the Holly Springs Golden Hawks on Wednesday, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 back in March.

Garner saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Smades, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Garner's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Holly Springs, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-13.

Looking ahead, Garner will head out on the road to take on South Garner at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans are facing the Titans at the right time seeing as the Titans are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Holly Springs, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sanderson at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
