Basketball Preview: Moshannon Valley Black Knights/Damsels vs. Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs

Moshannon Valley has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs at 7:15 p.m. on Monday.

Last Friday, Moshannon Valley took a serious blow against the Hornets, falling 70-34. While losing is never fun, Moshannon Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 742nd, while the Hornets are ranked 310th).

Even though Claysburg-Kimmel has not done well against the Trojans recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Claysburg-Kimmel came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 59-51. The win was just what Claysburg-Kimmel needed coming off of a 66-42 defeat in their prior game.

Claysburg-Kimmel's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brayden Haney, who scored 18 points along with eight assists and two steals. It was the first time this season that Haney posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Aidan Simpson, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals.

Moshannon Valley's loss dropped their record down to 1-14. Claysburg-Kimmel's record now sits at 10-8.

Moshannon Valley couldn't quite finish off the Bulldogs when the teams last played back in February of 2023 and fell 57-54. Can Moshannon Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
