Softball Recap: Concord Spiders vs. South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls
Concord took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against South Stanly, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Concord Spiders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls on Thursday. This was payback for the Spiders, who suffered a 10-0 loss the last time these two teams met.
Alexa Hooks was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and one double. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emilia Bradley, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those runs were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Biggers, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Concord now has a winning record of 4-3. As for South Stanly, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Coming up, Concord will square off against Northwest Cabarrus at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Northwest Cabarrus will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last. As for South Stanly, they will take on Anson at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. South Stanly's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Anson's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
