Basketball Game Preview: McCamey Badgers vs. Van Horn Eagles

The McCamey Badgers will take on the Van Horn Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

McCamey easily dispatched Midessa on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. McCamey fell just short of Wink by a score of 43-41 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Badgers have suffered since February 9, 2024.

Meanwhile, Van Horn entered their tilt with Balmorhea on Tuesday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They enjoyed a cozy 55-39 victory over the Bears. The Eagles pushed the score to 48-24 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bears cut but never quite recovered from.

McCamey better keep an eye on Joey Anchondo. He was instrumental in Van Horn's win, almost dropping a double-double on 27 points and nine boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which Anchondo has scored at least a third of Van Horn's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel Gonzalez, who posted six points and seven assists.

Van Horn was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Van Horn has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season. As for McCamey, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season.

McCamey took a serious blow against Van Horn in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 56-27. Thankfully for McCamey, Gio Corralez (who went 6 of 13 on his way to 16 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
