Softball Game Preview: Bayside Marlins vs. Norview Pilots

The Bayside Marlins will head out on the road to face off against the Norview Pilots at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Cox hit Bayside with a four-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Marlins fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 5-4. The Marlins haven't had much luck with the Falcons recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Kennedy Allen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, Madison Matthews made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayleigh Leeland-Powell, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Norview fell victim to Granby and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 15-0 to the Comets. Having soared to a lofty 21 runs in the game before, the Pilots' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Norview's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Bayside, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9.

Everything went Bayside's way against Norview in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, as Bayside made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Marlins since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
