Baseball Recap: Cibola Find Success

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Cibola walked away with it. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls on Saturday. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Cavemen/Cavegirls on Saturday, they had to take a 8-3 loss.

Leo Lopez looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Zach Wood was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Daniel Kean was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one double.

Cibola's victory bumped their record up to 17-12. As for Carlsbad, their defeat dropped their record down to 22-7.

Coming up, Cibola will challenge Sandia at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Matadors will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. Carlsbad does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
