Basketball Recap: Howard Comes Up Short

On Monday, the Howard Eagles didn't have quite enough to beat the New Life Christian Academy Monarchs and fell 68-66. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game back in December of 2024 (64), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

Asany Richmond was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 14 boards for New Life Christian Academy. With that strong performance, Richmond is now averaging an impressive 15.8 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Melvin, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 15 points.

Howard's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 9-4. As for New Life Christian Academy, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Howard will square off against Wayne Preparatory Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for New Life Christian Academy, they will host Capitol Encore Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. New Life Christian Academy is facing Capitol Encore Academy at the right time seeing as Capitol Encore Academy is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
