Softball Recap: Eastern Greene Comes Up Short

Eastern Greene extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 6-11 in the process. They came up short against the Orleans Bulldogs, falling 11-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Thunderbirds of the 5-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Eastern Greene saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Ramey, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Orleans, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-6. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.

On Orleans' side, Ella Owens made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Owens has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Cooper, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Izzie Rutherford was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Eastern Greene will head out to take on Clay City at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eels will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Thunderbirds surely won't give up without a fight. As for Orleans, they will welcome Bloomington North at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
