Basketball Recap: Mt. Gilead Indians vs. Fredericktown Freddies
The Mt. Gilead Indians were the 45-43 winner over the Fredericktown Freddies when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Mt. Gilead fell 53-44 to the Freddies on Tuesday.
When it comes to explaining why Mt. Gilead lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aubrey Thomas. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thomas has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Greer Simpson, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Fredericktown got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Cally Carpenter out in front who scored 19 points along with two steals. Carpenter is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Mya Bryant was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Mt. Gilead dropped their record down to 9-8 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Fredericktown, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Gilead will square off against the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. East Knox is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. As for Fredericktown, they will head out on the road to take on the Golden Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Northmor focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Tuesday.
