Basketball Game Preview: St. Brendan Sabres vs. Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks

The St. Brendan Sabres will square off against the Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Saturday, St. Brendan didn't have too much trouble with Key West as they won 44-28. Given the Sabres' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 256th, while the Conchs are ranked 570th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Among those leading the charge was Bella Perez, who posted 23 points. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Claudia Luis, who put up ten points.

Meanwhile, Archbishop McCarthy entered their tilt with Donahue Catholic on Saturday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 51-48 win over the Shamrocks. 51 seems to be a good number for the Mavericks as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

Archbishop McCarthy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-8 record this season. As for St. Brendan, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.

St. Brendan took their victory against Archbishop McCarthy in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 by a conclusive 59-33. Will St. Brendan repeat their success, or does Archbishop McCarthy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
