Softball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Bullitt East's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

Bullitt East took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against South Oldham, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Chargers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Dragons on Saturday, sneaking past 6-4. This was payback for the Chargers, who suffered a 12-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Mackenzie Mingus made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over 5.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Courtney Bass, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Mollie Johnston was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Bullitt East has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for South Oldham, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-12.

Coming up, Bullitt East will face off against Atherton at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for South Oldham, they will challenge Fern Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
