Recap: West Carrollton Pirates vs. Troy Trojans
Even though the West Carrollton Pirates have not done well against the Troy Trojans recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. West Carrollton blew past Troy 46-23. Winning is a bit easier when your three-point shooting is a whole 24% better than the opposition, as West Carrollton's was.
West Carrollton was led to victory by Iyanna Thompson and Selena Frost. Thompson scored 21 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Frost dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. The game was Frost's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ava Williams , who scored nine points.
Troy's loss came despite strong showings from Emma LeVan and Carmen Brooks. LeVan scored four points, while Brooks scored five points along with five rebounds. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for her.
West Carrollton is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. As for Troy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Carrollton will take on Greenville at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Troy, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Miami East at 7:15 p.m. Miami East is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
