Baseball Recap: Shelbyville Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

Shelbyville had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over the Timpson Bears. That's two games straight that the Dragons have won by exactly two runs.

Tanor Doggett was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Doggett was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Those stolen bases were his first of the season.

In other batting news, Shelbyville got a big performance out of Jaxon Lambright, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those two runs gave Lambright a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tate Obregon, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Shelbyville's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Timpson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-3.

Coming up, Shelbyville will venture away from home to face off against Joaquin at 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Joaquin has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Timpson, they will be playing at home against Woden at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Timpson 3.4, Woden 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
