Football Game Preview: Spanish Fork Dons vs. Maple Mountain Golden Eagles

The Spanish Fork Dons are taking a road trip to square off against the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Spanish Fork will be strutting in after a win while Maple Mountain will be coming in after a loss.

Spanish Fork took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Payson 42-20. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-7.

Nixon Warren was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 79 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight carries, and also threw for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was James Buck, who rushed for 136 yards while picking up 8.0 yards per carry.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Spanish Fork was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 273 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Spanish Fork didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jakob Cloward.

Meanwhile, Maple Mountain fell victim to Springville and their airtight defense on Friday. They were dealt a 28-0 defeat at the hands of the Red Devils. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Golden Eagles haven't been shut out since back in August.

This is the second loss in a row for Maple Mountain and nudges their season record down to 1-6. As for Spanish Fork, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-5.

Spanish Fork couldn't quite get it done against Maple Mountain in their previous meeting back in August of 2024 as they fell 35-27. Can the Dons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
