Fairmont faced Beavercreek in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Firebirds fell just short of the Beavers by a score of 3-2. The Firebirds' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Fairmont started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 16-25, 18-25, 28-26, 25-23, 15-10.

When it comes to explaining why Fairmont lost, don't look at Owen Castle. Despite the final result, he had 18 digs and four assists.

Leading Beavercreek to victory were Sean Gunzelmann and Evan Louprasong. Gunzelmann had ten digs and five assists, while Louprasong had eight digs and one assist. That's the most digs Gunzelmann has posted since back in April. James Webber also deserves some recognition as he had his first block of the season.

Fairmont's loss dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Beavercreek, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-7.

Fairmont has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Wayne on the 6th. As for Beavercreek, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 3-0 defeat against Archbishop McNicholas on the 3rd.
