Softball Recap: Leo Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

Leo won the last time they faced Norwell and things went their way on Monday too. The Lions walked away with a 9-4 win over the Knights. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.

Leah Shappell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Carley Funk was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Lexi Nighswander was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Leo's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3. As for Norwell, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Leo will host Carroll at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Lions' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Norwell, they will be playing at home against Bellmont at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Braves have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
