Softball Game Preview: Goldsboro Cougars vs. Farmville Central Jaguars

The Goldsboro Cougars will head out to face off against the Farmville Central Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Goldsboro has given up an average of 9.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Goldsboro lost 24-9 to Princeton on Tuesday. The Cougars have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meeting.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Farmville Central). They put the hurt on West Craven with a sharp 13-6 victory on Friday. Considering the Jaguars have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Callie Mitchell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Mitchell was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, Michele Wirth was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Neely, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Farmville Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Farmville Central's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Goldsboro, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
