Ellie Phillips leads a balanced attack to beat Gilbert Christian

Recap: Valley Christian Trojans vs. Gilbert Christian Knights

The Valley Christian Trojans waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They took down Gilbert Christian 52-33. Given Valley Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Gilbert Christian is ranked 107th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Valley Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ellie Phillips, who scored 21 points. Phillips is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Grier, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.

Valley Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. As for Gilbert Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley Christian will take on Rancho Solano Prep at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rancho Solano Prep is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Gilbert Christian, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Coolidge at 5:30 p.m. on January 17th. Hopefully Coolidge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 last Tuesday.
