Soccer Game Preview: Atwater vs. El Capitan

The Atwater Falcons will challenge the El Capitan Gauchos at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Atwater is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 2.6 goals per game this season.

Atwater took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Their defense stepped up to hand Buhach Colony a 6-0 shutout. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 426th, while the Thunder are ranked 991st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Atwater's offense was hitting Buhach Colony from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Julian Zaragoza led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by himself.

Meanwhile, El Capitan came up short against Merced on Wednesday and fell 3-1.

Atwater's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2-2 and their overall record up to 6-6-4. As for El Capitan, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5-5.
