Baseball Recap: Thales Academy Apex Starts off Right with Win over St. Thomas More Academy

Thales Academy Apex had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. Everything went their way against the St. Thomas More Academy Chancellors as Thales Academy Apex made off with a 23-3 win. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Rylan Sheldon made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs.

In other batting news, James Speight was a standout: he scored five runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Holden Wilcenski was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Thales Academy Apex always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Thomas More Academy only posted an OBP of .278.

St. Thomas More Academy is on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Thales Academy Apex has already played their next matchup, a 7-4 victory against Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill on the 21st. As for St. Thomas More Academy, they will head out to take on Neuse Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
