Softball Recap: Pusch Ridge Christian Academy Wins Going Away Against Catalina

Pusch Ridge Christian Academy won the last time they faced Catalina and things went their way on Thursday too. The Lions blew past the Trojans 18-1. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won five matches by 12 runs or more so far this season.

Maddy Hoel made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josie Burnside, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Hadley English, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Pusch Ridge Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .914. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory got Pusch Ridge Christian Academy back to even at 8-8. As for Catalina, they dropped their record down to 0-10 with the loss, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pusch Ridge Christian Academy will head out to take on Sahuaro at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Catalina, they will face off against Safford at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
