Basketball Recap: Lytle Comes Up Short

Lytle lost against Crystal City back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Lytle Pirates lost 55-29 to the Crystal City Javelinas. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Pirates have suffered against the Javelinas since February 3, 2017.

Loss or not, Lytle got some senior leadership from Arianna Garcia and Lunna Reyes. Garcia dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards, while Reyes almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 21 rebounds. That was a full 48.3% of Lytle's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Zabella Garza also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Alyson Mata went supernova for Crystal City, almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. Mata has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jazmine Villarreal, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 11 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Lytle and nudges their season record down to 10-18. As for Crystal City, they pushed their record up to 17-9 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Lytle has already played their next game, a 48-34 defeat against Natalia on the 31st. As for Crystal City, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-37 victory against Hondo on the 31st.
