Football Game Preview: Mater Academy Charter Lions vs. North Miami Pioneers

The Mater Academy Charter Lions will head out on the road to challenge the North Miami Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mater Academy Charter is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Mater Academy Charter's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They really took it to Everglades for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-0 victory. Fans of the Lions have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Mater Academy Charter found their leader in sophomore Dontavious Kinchens, who rushed for 35 yards and two touchdowns.

One reason for the win was Mater Academy Charter's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. In that department, Edwardo Thompson was the leader with two. Thompson is crushing it when it comes to sacks: he's posted at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 42 points the game before, North Miami was a bit more limited in their matchup last Thursday. They took a 16-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of Calvary Christian Academy. The loss continues a trend for the Pioneers in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.

Having lost for the first time this season, North Miami fell to 4-1. As for Mater Academy Charter, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.

Mater Academy Charter didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against North Miami in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, but they still walked away with a 21-17 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
