Southwestern recap October 1, 2013
Belleville West was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping O'Fallon. The Maroons came in at 19 in the state poll after placing at number 34 last week.
Alton scaled the state rankings by moving to 173 from 207 this week, the biggest jump in Southwestern. The Redbirds were able to move up by defeating Granite City 34-13.
Tae'mon Franklin had a great week catching the football as the Panthers lost to Belleville West. He caught 9 passes for 215 yards.
Greg Taylor was a beast in the backfield as East St. Louis beat East.
Camden Bauer threw for 560 yards and 5 touchdowns. He was 33-53 with 4 interceptions.
Franklin was the best wideout in the league this week as O'Fallon lost to Cameron Pettus' team. Franklin racked up 9 receptions for 215 yards. Klayton Gettis helped O'Fallon's passing attack out by catching 12 balls for 169 yards.
O'Fallon's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Panthers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Bauer has thrown for 1,181 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while Franklin has 21 catches for 458 yards.
The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between the Maroons and Edwardsville. Belleville West enters the game ranked 19th in the state, while the Tigers ranks 13th.
The Maroons' offense has racked up 229 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Edwardsville has allowed only 40 on the year.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Belleville West takes on Matt Martin's team. The Maroons have allowed 89 points this season, while the Tigers have given up 40. Belleville West allowed 38 points last week as it defeated Brandon Joggerst's team.
Adding to the longest winning streak in Southwestern this week, Edwardsville beat Collinsville 48-0. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
