Softball Recap: Stoneman Douglas Triumphs

Stoneman Douglas was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 4-1 win over the Monarch Knights. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Addison Zajkowski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Stoneman Douglas saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucia Perez, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Hanka Kardos also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Stoneman Douglas' win bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Monarch, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.

Stoneman Douglas and Monarch should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The Eagles will square off against Taravella at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (133 vs. 347). Meanwhile, Monarch (ranked 235th) will meet Northeast (ranked 532nd) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
