Baseball Recap: Minneapolis South Comes Up Short

Minneapolis South had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-7 to make it eight. They lost 10-0 to the Breck Mustangs. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

As for Breck, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games.

For Breck's part, Alex Averbook was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Averbook has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Garrett Trench, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Breck's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 1-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Kobun Lien, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Minneapolis South will venture away from home to face off against Roosevelt at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Breck, they will host DeLaSalle at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
