Baseball Game Preview: Atherton Wolverines vs. Bendle Tigers

The Atherton Wolverines will square off against the Bendle Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Atherton is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Flint Southwestern Academy with a sharp 27-9 victory on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Meanwhile, Bendle got themselves on the board against Morrice on Monday, but Morrice never followed suit. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Orioles 1-0. The one-run effort marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Landon Mattis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashton Rodriguez, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases. Kaden Mattis was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases.

Atherton now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Bendle, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
