Basketball Recap: Mt. Olive Takes a Loss

Mt. Olive was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 71-50 to the SIUE East St. Louis Charter Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 79-38 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Mt. Olive still got an impressive performance from David Schoen, who went 6-for-15 on his way to 14 points. Jake Frizzo was another key player, putting up ten points.

Jaylen Wiley continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for SIUE East St. Louis Charter, dropping a double-double with 18 points and 12 boards. Wiley is becoming a predictor of SIUE East St. Louis Charter's success: when he posts at least ten rebounds the team is 2-1 (and 7-10 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Travis Harrell, who posted 12 points and four steals.

Mt. Olive's defeat dropped their record down to 5-22. As for SIUE East St. Louis Charter, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-11.

Coming up, Mt. Olive will face off against Metro-East Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. SIUE East St. Louis Charter does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
