Softball Recap: Six Straight Home Wins for Roane County

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Roane County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the McMinn Central Chargers. The victory continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Chargers: they've now won eight in a row.

Sailor Presley made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over eight innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Presley wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ava Hamilton, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Roane County's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for McMinn Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.

Roane County will face off against West at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for McMinn Central, they will square off against Eagleton College & Career Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Royals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.53 runs per game on average), something the Chargers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
