Softball Recap: Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville Wins Going Away Against Middleburgh

Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville won the last time they faced Middleburgh and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Wolves were the clear victors by a 29-1 margin over the Knights. The result was nothing new for the Wolves, who have now won four games by 12 runs or more so far this season.

Sydney Hazzard made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Hazzard was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Gianna McAdams was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. She also hit two doubles, marking her first of the season. Taylor Hayes was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double.

Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 12.6.

The win got Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville back to even at 5-5. As for Middleburgh, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville will take on Cherry Valley-Springfield at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 12.2 runs per game this season. As for Middleburgh, they will square off against Fort Plain at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hilltoppers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.5 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of.
