Softball Recap: Green Valley Wins Going Away Against Sultana

Green Valley made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Sultana, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Green Valley blew past Sultana 12-2 on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Gators, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Mia Mor Hernandez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed over her last six games. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Lyla Baxter was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Lauryn Galvin, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4.

Green Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Green Valley has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-5 record this season. Sultana's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Green Valley will welcome Palo Verde at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Palo Verde will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Green Valley surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sultana, they will host Beaumont at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
