The Hobbs Eagles will take on the Clovis Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Hobbs hadn't beaten Roswell on the road since October 25, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Eagles came out on top against the Coyotes by a score of 3-1.
The final score came out to 25-22, 25-16, 18-25, 25-20.
Meanwhile, Clovis posted their closest win since September 13th on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Carlsbad 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Cavemen/Cavegirls: they've now won six in a row.
Clovis was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 22-25, 18-25, 25-20, 15-8.
Clovis' win came from a few key players Hobbs will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brynn Petner, who had 17 digs and eight kills. She has been hot for a while, having posted five or more kills the last 15 times she's played. Sophie Roberts was another key player, getting 16 digs, eight kills, and one block.
Hobbs picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 6-12. As for Clovis, their win bumped their record up to 8-9.
Hobbs took their victory against Clovis in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
