Baseball Recap: Immaculata Takes a Loss

Immaculata fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Hunterdon Central on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Red Devils by a score of 8-7. Even though they lost, the Spartans' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.1 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Immaculata got a good showing from Jackson Trego, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Trego has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Colin Kassai made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those doubles marked the first that he has hit this season. Owen Schilling was another key player, going 1-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.

Immaculata's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-2. As for Hunterdon Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Immaculata will challenge North Hunterdon at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hunterdon Central, they will face off against Robbinsville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
