Basketball Game Preview: Simpson Academy Cougars vs. Jackson Academy Raiders

The Simpson Academy Cougars will challenge the Jackson Academy Raiders at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Simpson Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They walked away with a 59-48 win over Greenville Christian. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Saints are ranked 101st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Jackson Academy came tearing into Saturday's contest with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.4 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Hawks by a score of 65-54.

The victory made it two in a row for Simpson Academy and bumps their season record up to 25-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points over those games. As for Jackson Academy, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-4.

Simpson Academy was dealt a bruising 93-44 defeat at the hands of Jackson Academy when the teams last played back in November of 2023. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Simpson Academy was down 52-22.
