Lincoln is 8-2 against Saline since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Railsplitters will head out to face off against the Hornets at 4:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Lincoln sitting on three straight wins and Saline on four.
Lincoln proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by seven) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Clinton 11-10.
Autumn Anderson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ava Greene, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Saline got the win against Milan on Friday by a conclusive 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won ten matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Abby Curtis looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last seven contests.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sydney Hastings, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Casey Griffin also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Saline was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .480 or higher in three consecutive games.
Saline's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-2-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.5 runs. As for Lincoln, their record now sits at 7-2.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lincoln hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .442. However, it's not like Saline struggles in that department as they've averaged .427. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lincoln couldn't quite finish off Saline in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 and fell 2-0. Can the Railsplitters avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
