Basketball Recap: Cloverdale Comes Up Short

After soaring to 64 points the game before, Cloverdale was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They had to suffer through a 56-27 loss at the hands of the Greencastle Tiger Cubs. While losing is never fun, the Clovers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 301st, while the Tiger Cubs are ranked 110th).

Greencastle was led to victory by Sam Gooch and Trevin Long. Gooch went 7-for-11 on his way to 16 points and five boards, while Long posted nine points along with five assists and four steals. Gooch has been hot, having posted 16 or more points the last six times he's played. Connor Sullivan was another key player, putting up eight points.

Cloverdale is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-12. As for Greencastle, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 14-5.

Coming up, Cloverdale will challenge West Vigo at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Greencastle, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against South Putnam at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Greencastle's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine games.
