Baseball Game Preview: Wilburton Diggers vs. Wister Wildcats

Wilburton hasn't had much luck against Wister recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Diggers will venture away from home to square off against the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Wilburton gave up the first runs last Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Allen as they made off with an 11-2 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Diggers needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Meanwhile, Wister entered their tilt with Panama on Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Razorbacks with a sharp 17-10 victory. The Wildcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

The team relied heavily on Torben Vocque, who scored two runs while going 4-for-5. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Easton Turnipseed, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Vocque wasn't the only one making solid contact: Wister kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Wister pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Wilburton, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Wilburton might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Wister in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Diggers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
