Basketball Recap: Smoky Valley Takes a Loss

Smoky Valley lost against Sterling back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Smoky Valley Vikings took a blow against the Sterling Black Bears, falling 87-32. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while the Black Bears are ranked 28th).

Smoky Valley's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ty Heitschmidt, who posted 14 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylon Olson, who had ten points.

Smoky Valley's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Sterling, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.

Smoky Valley will be taking part in a tournament against Kingman at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Smoky Valley is facing Kingman at the right time seeing as Kingman is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Sterling, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Berean Academy on February 7th.
