Football Recap: Peninsula Panthers vs. North Saxons
Peninsula had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-7 to make it seven. They took a 34-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the North Saxons. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 568th, while the Saxons are ranked 269th).
Despite the loss, Peninsula still got an impressive performance from Kamran Dowlatshai, who rushed for 71 yards and a pair of TDs.
As for North, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-3. Considering their offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
North got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ethan Edwards out in front who threw for 216 yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 31 yards. Kchole Mataele-Juarez did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 81 receiving yards.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Peninsula will square off against rival Redondo Union at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, North is set to challenge their familiar foe South at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Edwards and Chase Spahr.
