Basketball Recap: North Putnam Falls Short of Southmont in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact North Putnam can now relate to. They fell to the Southmont Mounties 48-44. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mounties earlier this season, when they won 66-41.

North Putnam's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Rose Haste, who shot 5-for-9 from long range and dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Melanie Davies, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 boards. Haste has become a key player for North Putnam: the team is 8-4 when she posts at least eight boards, but 4-7 otherwise.

Layla Gomez continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Southmont, almost dropping a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. Gomez has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times she's played. Kaylee Turner also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

North Putnam has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season. As for Southmont, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.

North Putnam does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Southmont, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-44 win against Greencastle on the 7th.
