Preview: Dysart Demons vs. Tempe Buffaloes
Dysart is 3-0 against Tempe since January of 2023, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Dysart Demons will be playing at home against the Tempe Buffaloes at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Dysart's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 16 matches.
In what's become a running theme this season, Dysart gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Coronado 79-35 at home. Given Dysart's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Coronado is ranked 195th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dysart's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nate Morales, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nigel Anderson, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Tempe was able to grind out a solid victory over Apache Junction on Friday, taking the game 60-49. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Tempe.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tempe to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nassir Cobbs, who scored 20 points along with three steals. Cobbs is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Alejandro Irizarry-Navarro, who scored 16 points.
Dysart's victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-3. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 30.27 points. As for Tempe, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-14.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Dysart and Tempe are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Dysart hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 68.6 points per game. However, it's not like Tempe struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 54.5 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Everything came up roses for Dysart against Tempe in their previous meeting last Wednesday as the squad secured a 77-43 win. Will Dysart repeat their success, or does Tempe have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
