Basketball Game Preview: Hodgeman County Longhorns vs. Meade Buffaloes

The Hodgeman County Longhorns will face off against the Meade Buffaloes at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Hodgeman County took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They strolled past Pawnee Heights with points to spare, taking the game 45-27. Given the Longhorns' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while the Tigers are ranked 325th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hodgeman County's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Tyson Younger, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Ian Reece, who posted 11 points and five steals. Those 11 boards gave Younger a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hazen Rydquist, who put up seven points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Meade waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They took down the Tigers 51-33.

Meade has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Hodgeman County, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.

Hodgeman County was dealt a bruising 76-46 loss at the hands of Meade in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Hodgeman County was down 39-19.
