Western entered their tilt with Whitney on Thursday with 14 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 15. They came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 3-1. The Pioneers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wildcats, too.

Western had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-15.

Stephen Gross paced Western's offense, picking up 24 kills. Gross got some help from Nathaniel Dumangas and his 25 assists. Gross was also solid from the service line: he led the team with five aces.

Western pushed their record up to 17-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. As for Whitney, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-14.

Looking ahead, Western will be playing at home against Savanna at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Whitney, they will venture away from home to face off against Cerritos at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
